1765 Quarting Act
What does this mean?
For the colonies, this was the British asserting their power over the colonies (2). This contributed to the tensions between the British and the Colonies. Because of the soldiers were apparent they was a lot of physical and verbal agitation towards the british agents (2).
What is it?
The Quarting Act required the colonies to provide barracks for the soldiers (1). If not barracks then Inns, livery stables, Ale houses, victualling houses, and sellers of wine houses (1). Also, it also required the colonies to build and prepare housing for the Kings Forces (1). Once they arrived, the colonies then had to provide food, and transportation for the soldiers (2).
Boston Massacre
March 5th, 1770, day of Boston Massacre, and day the quatering act was lifted (3). Before, tensions were high with present of soldiers (3). Contributed to the unpopularity of the British regime. Went from protest to massacre (3) . Three men Killed. Aftermath: Removal of troops, temporarily averted hostilities (2).
