Kent State Massacre

Background

May, 1970, President Nixon announces the invasion of Cuba, and the sending of 150,000 U.S. troops to help the Vietnam War effort (1). On May 4th, Campuses across the nation rioted on anti-war. In Ohio, The govenor sent 900 National Guard troops to quiet the Anti-war Riot (2). Overwhelmed by the rioters whom set fire to the universitie's ROTC Building, Twenty-Eight National Guardsmen panicked, and opened fire with automatic weapons (3). The aftermath included the deaths of four students, and wounded nine (1). 

Aftermath:

Over 500 Campuses across the nation either shut down, or disrupted by anti-war riots. Ten days later, Police opened fire on a an all Black highschool in Mississippi. Two students left dead, nine wounded. Black community bitter because less to none media attention.
